COMMUNITY CARE ACCESS: Assisting you with skills development, personal care and social support
Disability is a wide expression that refers to a variety of difficulties that people face when navigating through life. It's possible that you are physically challenged, which eventually limits your range of motion or motor coordination. You could also have a cognitive disability that makes it difficult for you to interact adequately with the world around you. Whether it's you or your loved one having a disability, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can help you access a variety of support services to help you live your life and be happy. You can avail these services from any NDIS service provider.
With so many services and their utter advantages, it can get a little confusing at first to understand what you need. Here are some common ones discussed below.
Skills Development
Skills development allows you to be more self-sufficient and actually accomplish your life goals. It takes more than just buying an assistive device to achieve your goals; it takes time, guidance, encouragement, and praise. However, as you gain more skills, you will create a tool chest that will enable you to face and overcome almost any challenge.
Skills development focuses on activities implemented by the participant or their caregiver to improve their ability to live as independently as possible.
Personal Care Assistance
Personal Care Assistants are the individuals that make it possible for older adults to fulfil their needs while remaining in the comfort of a familiar environment. A personal care assistant provides supervision for all kinds of daily personal activities that include:
- Bathing, oral hygiene, grooming, toileting, and menstrual care are all part of personal hygiene.
- Keeping up with every appointment and helping with attending them.
- Eating daily meals and drinking
- Assisting with mobility tasks such as going to the bathroom, stepping upstairs, getting out of bed, and many others
- Giving assistance with basic first aid
- Guiding them with appliances like hearing devices, etc.
Personal care assistance may be needed in a variety of situations. For instance, a participant who lives alone in their home, or when participating in social, educational, or recreational activities, or travelling away from home on a vacation or for employment purposes.
Social Support
Social support is critical to the NDIS's goal of assisting people with disabilities in achieving independence, social inclusion, and access to employment. Everyday life includes social activities. These are activities everyone enjoys and that can benefit their health and well-being. Our support team can also assist you in meeting new people and enhancing your abilities.
Social support activities can look like:
- Paying visits to friends and family
- sporting activities, such as tennis, surfing, basketball, biking, etc.
- Going out, such as to see a movie or attend a concert,
- Going to places where you can have fun, such as shopping or going to a museum,
- Relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga
- acquiring new skills such as dance, art classes, or quilting.
You may require short-term assistance to begin your social activity. This short-term assistance may help you develop skills that will allow you to take part independently. It could also help you interact with someone who can assist you in participating regularly. You may also require ongoing help to engage in social and recreational activities.
